17th Anniversary!
A lovely day for a sail at the lake …my husband and our oldest are on one of those boats.
“It’s a new dawn; it’s a new day; it’s a new life for me, ooh, and I’m feeling good!”
My husband and I danced to Feeling Good at our wedding (and on the driveway to practice in the weeks leading up to our wedding. …it was the best dance floor option for our carriage house apartment!) and the lyrics seem to resonate just as much today as they did all those years ago.
Greetings from this new chapter!
Happy Anniversary!
Okay, so this may not be the 17th Anniversary for Claverach Press! In fact, it is really just the beginning. But like some beginnings, this one started more than 17 years ago when my husband and I were planning our wedding. We both had design backgrounds and that made us VERY particular when it came to design ideas, particularly when it came to our wedding stationery. Not just the invitations - that was just one element. Nope, everything from the envelopes for the Save The Dates to the place cards were deliberate and considered.
Creatively moving in a new direction.
I have always been an artist. Not simply because I loved making art, but also because I felt it defined me to create. However over the years I have created in vastly different ways than I ever could have imagined when I was 6 years old and drawing landscapes with lollipop shaped trees and “v” birds in the sky (perhaps yours were flapping like an “M” or a “W.”) I worked as a lobbyist (more like creatively organizing) and as a creative director (quite literally creating! designing products and packaging,) but I took a break from all of that when my husband and I created 2 little humans. Yet, as they were growing, I often got to “play” in designing cards, invitations, wedding suites, and more for family and friends. It felt a little like being the Speakeasy for stationery needs. You had to know someone who knew me … you know, whisper a quick request to grab coffee during pick up at the school. But, now my children are more independent and I’m a good 15 audio books and 200 podcast episodes into the idea and the planning … but things are always easier with a goal and a deadline! So… Anniversary it is!
Furniture …abstractly.
I had to Google this, but the traditional and the modern gift for the 17th Anniversary are: Furniture. Frankly, I have some furniture I’d like removed from the house, so the thought of adding more is not terribly appealing. However, furniture can mean many things!
In letterpress, the furniture is the array of wood and metal spacers used to brace the type and printing plates in place and not budge when they go into the chase (the carrier that it rides in the press.)
My husband is a cyclist and they have an interesting vernacular. The bit I have always loved is that they call curbs and medians “road furniture.” Initially I thought the Tour de France commentators must have been referring to someone’s lawn chair or side table on the side of the road. Nope, they are talking about brightly marked curbs.
So, if one thinks about furniture as the supports like letterpress maker and the curbs like a cyclist, then I think a Website is internet furniture! So, in honor of my 17th Anniversary - I’m placing this lovely website here in the cyberverse (yes, I just made that up.)
Please think of it like a writing desk.
With warmest regards,
Emily
